We finished this project yesterday and now I finally have a chance to get the results online! We pruned the taxus bushes into a shapely new form, added 4 perennials and a dozen annuals. We decided not to use any pre-emergents (such as preen) or fertilizer as the soil seemed rich with nutrients.

We started a new project yesterday here in Fort Wayne, Indiana. These beds had not been weeded all year and were quite overgrown with thistle, suckers and more. All of this should have been done in very early Spring just a few weeks after the last snow of winter.

Most people use manufactured chemical fertilizers to feed their plants. Why? Probably because it’s the easiest and quickest way to get results. Using chemical fertilizers can be counterproductive and create a product that is less than satisfactory.
Other people use organic fertilizers because they understand that organically feeding plants is more natural and affects the taste and quality of their vegetables or flowers. Produce grown with organic fertilizer is much healthier and stays fresh for days longer than factory farmed pulp that most people eat nowadays.
